WSI Lentz Scholarship

James C. Lentz Memorial Art Scholarship

The WSI awards the James C. Lentz Memorial Art Scholarship annually to an Indiana high school senior pursuing a degree in the visual arts.  As part of our nonprofit outreach each year, we enlist WSI volunteers by forming a scholarship committee to evaluate the scholarship applications and select a recipient in Jim's memory. Jim Lentz was a founding member of WSI, a talented artist and enthusiastic educator who taught art at Arlington High School for more than two decades. The Lentz Scholarship honors his legacy of engaging young people to pursue their artistic goals. It enables them to build skills, expand their creativity and develop their message in order to connect with and inspire their audience. The video below reveals more about Jim and his lasting impact.

A portion of Madeline's Artist Statement:

"For years my art was nothing more than boredom fueled doodles on my math assignments. It had seemed that my passion was something of the past until I entered High School. When I scrolled through the class selection list, two college-credit art classes grabbed my attention. Art in college? What an interesting thought. So I took my chance, little did I know that’s when I’d find my calling once more. I was met with nothing but opportunities to take my art further. I could make artworks that interested me without restrictive prompts, and unlike classes from years prior, I took the opportunity head-on."
